A mildly entertaining chat with T-Mobile
December 2nd 2009[connection messages snipped]
You have been connected to ~Amy S.
~Amy S: Hello, welcome to T-Mobile live Chat. My name is Amy, ID 13-20409 and I will be happy to assist you. Please allow me 2 to 3 minutes to review your question. How is your day going?
Blaine LaFreniere: hi, sorry I didn’t see your message
Blaine LaFreniere: Anyway, it’s going pretty good, how are you?
Blaine LaFreniere: I am considering canceling my T-Mobile service, as I am drooling over the Motorola Droid that Verizon has released.
~Amy S: Hello Blaine. I am doing well, thank you for asking. I am so sorry to hear that you are want to cancel your T-Mobile service. I will be happy to assist you today. As a customer since 2008, I will be happy to provide you with the best available solution.
Blaine LaFreniere: Alright, so, are there cancellation fees or anything like that?
~Amy S: Have you seen the new Motorola Cliq? T-Mobile release this phone at the beginning of November.
Blaine LaFreniere: Nope. I am looking for a phone that uses Google’s Android platform. I have looked at the G1, but the limited memory makes it a crap-choice because it won’t accept upgrades.
Blaine LaFreniere: A phone that utilizes an open source platform, but doesn’t have enough memory for upgrades is a poor choice for a phone.
Blaine LaFreniere: So, that’s why I am literally drooling over the Motorola Droid, 16GB of preinstalled memory is unbeatable.
~Amy S: The Cliq has a 2 GB (microSD) memory card included, and supports up to 32 GB
Blaine LaFreniere: Yeah, but it’s not pre-installed. That means no Android 2.0 ):
Blaine LaFreniere: Or am I wrong?
~Amy S: I do apologize. The latest Android version is 1.6.
Blaine LaFreniere: I am looking at all of the tech specs on http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/ci.Motorola-CLIQ-US-EN.alt and it does not come with Android 1.5 ![]()
~Amy S: Which the Cliq has on it.
Blaine LaFreniere: I mean, Android 2.0
Blaine LaFreniere: Well, that’s going to suck because Open Source software is patched often with security updates, making it pretty necessary to have the latest release.
~Amy S: Well the Cliq has amazing security features. You can save the data on the phone to the MotoBlur website. If you lose the phone you can remotely wipe the phone so that no one can get your information. All the info is saved on the website.
Blaine LaFreniere: I don’t think you get what I’m saying. The Cliq is already destined for failure because it’s pre-installed memory is not large enough to support future releases of Android.
~Amy S: All right Blaine. To cancel your service, you will need to call into customer care.
Blaine LaFreniere: Okay, do you know if there will be any cancellation fees?
~Amy S: The current contract on the line is until 8/4/2011. There will be a $200 fee to cancel the service now.
Blaine LaFreniere: What would happen if I refused to pay?
~Amy S: The account will go into a write off status and be sent to an outside collection agency.
Blaine LaFreniere: What if I refused to pay them?
~Amy S: The account will be on your credit rating.
Blaine LaFreniere: Is there an official document somewhere stating this?
Blaine LaFreniere: And by credit rating, do you mean it will be reported to the big three credit agencies?
~Amy S: This information is located in the terms and conditions. Yes the write off account is reported to all credit agencies.
Blaine LaFreniere: This is assuming the collections agency successfully contacts me, is this correct?
Blaine LaFreniere: Otherwise, I believe they do not have the ability to report the write off account to all credit agencies.
~Amy S: I do apologize for the situation Blaine. If you do not pay your account, the account will be sent to an outside collection agency. The account will be reported on your credit rating regardless if the collection agency contacts you or not.
~Amy S: Is there anything else we can assist you with today?
Blaine LaFreniere: Nope, that is all. Thanks.
~Amy S: Thank you for contacting T-Mobile Chat, have a great day!
